Dear CAMP Members and Supporters,

Assalamu Alaikum.

We have a lot to catch up on!

Thanks to YOU, our CAMP chapters raised more than $73,000 for Islamic Relief's humanitarian efforts during our Ramadan iftar dinners. There's still time to donate. Find out how on Islamic Relief's website.

More than 100 people attended CAMP's panel, The Leadership Mindset, at the ISNA annual convention on September 2. The panel continued to build on leadership iedas that we explored at our Leadership Summit in the spring and we'd like to extend our special thanks to our speakers for an informative panel: Salim Patel, Ibtihaj Muhammad Shireen Zaman and Zeba Iqbal.

Later in the evening, 360 people attended CAMP's annual dinner at the historic Willard InterContinental Hotel. Our turnout was the largest we have seen in the 17-year history of CAMP's annual dinner.

Special thanks to our speakers for the dinner - Assad Akhter and Suhail Khan and moderator Sharaf Mowjood. Their witty and thoughtful insight on how today's political issues impact Muslim Americans made for an engaging discussion.

With Election Day around the corner, our series on celebrating Muslim-Americans’ accomplishments features Sami H. Elmansoury, a community activist in New Jersey. A contributor to the book "All American: 45 American Men on Being Muslim," Elmansoury talked to CAMP about his work in bring together Americans of all faiths, races, and social standings together to solve issues of common interest to the country.

In this spirit, we invite you to check out a new series of articles called Election 2012 - American Muslims VOTE!It is a collaboration between Altmuslim at Patheos, Altmuslimah, and Illume featuring research from the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding. One of its writers, Zeba Iqbal, former executive director of CAMP, has authored the first article in the series

Thanks for your continued support of, and participation in, CAMP.

Sincerely,

Afsha Bawany, Communications Director, CAMP
