Assalaamualaikum,

CAMP-Chicago is kicking off the 2015 new year with the 6th Annual Kickoff Dinner. Meet the CAMP-Chicago officers, learn about upcoming events and network with other Muslim professionals. This year's dinner will be held at Parthenon in downtown Chicago.

What's Your Story?

We welcome guest speaker, Sharaf Mowjood to this year's kick-off dinner. Sharaf is an associate producer for NBC News where he has worked with Brian Williams and other NBC correspondents on producing several key breaking stories ranging from the U.S. Presidential elections, humanitarian disasters, and conflicts throughout the world.

Recently, he has worked with Emmy Award-winning anchor and correspondent Ann Curry on the humanitarian situation in Syria and the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the West. Stories he has reported and helped produce for NBC News include: 'The Arab Spring,' 'Fukushima Fallout,' 'Romney Brothers,' 'Tomb Raiders,' 'No Laughing Matter,' 'The Price of Gold,' and 'Leap of Faith,' a story about two NFL players who left the game to go on Hajj.

Prior to working at NBC News, Mowjood’s work and story ideas have been featured in The Washington Post, ABC News, TODAY Show, Nightly News with Brian Williams, MSNBC, and The Rachel Maddow Show. His stories have made the front page of The New York Times four times and his videos have made the front page of The Times website. Mowjood's first published byline appeared on the front page of The New York Times in 2009 for breaking the story about a mosque being built two blocks north of Ground Zero, today famously known as "The Ground Zero" mosque.

Mowjood serves as the President of SAJA - South Asian Journalists Association, a non-profit organization that distributes over $60,000 in scholarships to students of South Asian descent who are aspiring journalists, writers, producers, anchors and correspondents. SAJA also provides over $10,000 in fellowships, and $2,000 in paid media internships.
