SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER: ARTIST NADIA JANJUA

Our featured speaker for the evening will be Nadia Janjua, distinguished visual artist and founder of NadiaJArt.com. Recently named one of DC’s Best Up-and-Coming Artists by CBS Local, Nadia has been exhibiting her work professionally since 2002 throughout the United States and internationally. In 2010, she served as a Curator and Panelist for the 6th Annual World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, helping to bring together 30 international artists in the first ever arts festival of its kind. In 2011, Nadia curated a local group of Muslim female Artists to express issues of domestic violence and abuse in a group exhibition entitled, “Healing & Empowerment; Violence, Women & Art” in Silver Spring, MD. Nadia was shortlisted for the International Emerging Artist Award based in Dubai in January 2013, and awarded a Fellowship position at the 9th Annual Marketplace of the Creative Arts Festival in London, UK in November 2013. In addition to her participation in solo and group exhibitions, Nadia serves as a mentor and educator for immigrant and refugee women pursuing small businesses and creative entrepreneurship. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts from the George Washington University, and a Masters in Architecture from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
